It is Bella’s birthday, and she has more worries than the usual 18-year old. She is realizing that she will be aging, and the man she loves will not. On top of that, she has to deal with far more than the average teenager. Getting to know your boyfriend and his family is one thing. The worries, fears, and pressures of being accepted are another thing. But when your boyfriend’s brother tries to eat you, what do you do then? Bella is often very apologetic for being mortal and still having the ability to bleed. She feels guilt for being the one who is different in the Cullen family. She is struggling for acceptance, although it seems as though she is the one having the most difficulty accepting herself. Poor Bella is going through a very confusing time, and to make matters worse, it becomes more apparent that Jacob has feelings for her. Teen angst and adolescence lay the groundwork in this film, which highlights the hardest time of a person’s life, although instead of going through puberty, Jacob and his friends turn into werewolves. The main purpose for this installment of the Twilight Saga is to lay the foundation for what is to come. It is not very thrilling or provocative, but it is fun to watch, and the metaphors keep it interesting.
